VMEET 7 - “The Ex-Gay Lifestyle :

Dated : July 2008

1. Three kinds of Choices when choosing ones sexual lifestyle …
• The “Natural” choice / The Forced Choice / The Redeemed Choice

2. Becoming an exgay- simply means … one has decided to reject the homosexual lifestyle. This decision is…
• The first and most important step for every exgay
• Only the beginning for the exgay individual
• An ongoing decision – as long as one decides to continue being an exgay

3. The ex-gay lifestyle…
• Is not a sexual orientation – it is a lifestyle
• Is a freedom of choice for any homosexual / bisexual individual
• Could be embraced for a season OR for a lifetime

4. Every ex-gay is in the journey. It is not true that every exgay is having a heterosexual orientation. One could be having…
A homosexual orientation / a bisexual orientation / a heterosexual orientation / an asexual orientation

5. The primary differences between an ex-gay and a pro-gay:
The ex-gay The pro-gay
Looking at people of the same gender as platonic partners Looking at people of the same gender as romantic / sexual partners
Looking at people of the opposite gender as romantic / sexual partners Looking at people of the opposite gender as platonic partners
Chooses to think, speak and act as an ex-gay Chooses to think, speak & act as a pro-gay

6. The development of one’s Sexual Lifestyle:
Thought Life ?Singular Acts ? Habit ? Lifestyle ? Destiny

7. Some reasons for adopting the exgay lifestyle…
Fed up of the pro-gay lifestyle, Religion, Guilt, Family, Peer pressure & etc

8. Upon completing ones 3 years of Basic Recovery – the exgay has TWO lifestyle to choose from;
• The heterosexual lifestyle (which is NOT the only option – like most people think)
• The celibate lifestyle. Many exgays are living the celibate lifestyle. Exgays who are living the celibate lifestyle are NOT “second graded” ex-gay – like some people think so.

9. No perfect human being, no perfect Christian… SO no perfect ex-gay. Many ex-gays can still be tempted in the area of homosexuality. No human being lives without temptation- though everyone is tempted differently. Temptation is NOT a sin. When an ex-gay falls, it does not mean he/she is over as an ex-gay.

10. Many misunderstand and think that the exgay is the same as the bisexual. Here are some basic differences…

The ex-gay lifestyle
The bisexual lifestyle
Living the ex-gay lifestyle is rejecting the
homosexual lifestyle.
Living the bisexual lifestyle is being open
to the homosexual lifestyle.
Ex-gays would end up in a heterosexual or
celibate lifestyle.
Bisexuals would end up in a heterosexual,
homosexual or bisexual lifestyle.

11. Basic steps for a successful ex-gay
• Resolving the three human Triggers issues (The Self Issue, The Vacuum issue and the Barrier Issue)
